The Pygmalion Effect is what happens when you have positive expectations or a positive perception of someone, and they feel the benefit of your positive focus. The Pygmalion effect is to your relationships what the placebo effect is to your body and your health.
Here are some steps you can take:
- Think of someone you know who is hard to like, or who is having a hard time, or someone you want to succeed.
- In your mind's eye, see this person thriving, blossoming in some way, or just doing a little better.
- Return to this positive image every time you think of that person.
The first benefit is to you. This effort to hold someone in the highest
possible regard will open your good and loving heart, moving you into the best and brightest of who you are. Then, when you enter that person's presence, you will be more likely to look for and find positive aspects. They will feel the glow of your positive regard, and respond to the best of their ability.
